SILENT AUCTION &
DINNER
Emanuel Lutheran SchoolÕs 10th Annual Silent Auction has been set for Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. Mark your calendars and plan on attending and working at this major fundraiser for our school. We hope you are all trying to sell at least one booklet of tickets. Remember to turn in all sold ticket money and unsold tickets to your childÕs teacher by Friday, February 24, 2012 since these counts will assist in the dinner menu planning. We are in the process of collecting items to be bid on at the Silent Auction. If you or someone you know is interested in making a donation for this event, please contact Betty Sprengeler at (320) 238-2270 or Julie Wischnack at (320) 238-2535 with your donation information. We would like all donations to be delivered to the school by March 2, 2012. Each classroom will once again be collecting items for their classroom theme baskets. The classroom themes are as follows:
Items for classroom theme baskets can be brought to school anytime between now and Friday, February 24, 2012. You should have received the sign-up sheet for working at the Silent Auction & Dinner. Please consider working one or more of the various tasks and return the form to school by Friday, February 17, 2012. Your prayers and everyoneÕs willingness to participate in a fundraising event of this size will make for an enjoyable and successful evening.
Second Quarter Chapel
Offering Results
The second
quarter chapel offerings for the Southwest Carver Food Shelf were 198 pounds of
food and $392.38 in cash. Thank you for your generosity in giving to those in
need. It is good to see our Christian faith in action for our community.
Accelerated
Reader Challenge
Emanuel students
in grades 2-8 have been entered in an AR reading contest with other Lutheran
Schools across the country. The contest runs from Monday, January 30th to
Friday, March 9th. Each gradeÕs rating is determined by the average number of
Accelerated Reader points earned per student during the contest. Those with the
top averages will be acknowledged. A prize will be awarded for the top readers
in each grade and if a grade finishes in the top 15 percent in the contest they
will receive a pizza party. I know we have some great readers and they are up
for the challenge. GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY READING!!

Chapel Project
Chapel offerings for third quarter are going to the Hearts
for Jesus 2012 project which is Orphan Grain Train. Orphan Grain Train is a
Christian volunteer network that shares personal and material resources with
needy people in America and around the world. Grain Train volunteers gather donations of clothing, medical
supplies, food, Christian literature, and other aid to meet real needs. The Orphan Grain Train movement is a
loving response to Jesus Christ's example as a servant and His love for us.
Fifth and Sixth Grade News
Let it snow, let
it snow, let it snow!! Going outside hasn't been our favorite thing to do this
winter, but with the freshly fallen snow I think you will find the 5th and 6th
graders anxious to get outside and do some sledding at recess. Aside from that
excitement, we are very busy in the classroom. Our new Religion curriculum
coincides very well with our Memory Work. We are learning about the Lord's
Prayer and the parts of a worship service. It is always amazing to me the
astute children we have at Emanuel. For the 5th graders, Math has been a
whirlwind of charts and graphs and learning how to present data. The 6th
graders are finishing up a unit on rational numbers. In Language both grades
are studying the structure of a sentence and trying to become more discerning
writers. Non-fiction and historical fiction have been the subject matter in
Reading along with deciphering poetry. We have moved on to the early Romans as
we study the spread of civilizations to the modern world in Social Studies. In
this unusual Winter, it is great planning to have the students studying weather
and weather patterns in Science. We continue to work on our Minnesota History
scrapbook as we have just finished studying the governors and will be moving on
to the actual history of our great state. Please stop in any time and visit
with us!
Congratulations to the following students who had perfect church attendance for the 2nd quarter.. Primary Room- Morgan Johnson and Michael Woestehoff. Third & fourth grade- Abby Mackenthun, Cole Stuedeman, Brittney Buckientin, Owen Brinkman, and Christopher Woestehoff, 5th & 6th grade-, Anna Mackenthun, Madison Johnson, Abby Mackenthun, Samantha Miller, and Alex Stuedeman. 7th & 8th grade- Matthew Brinkman, Zack Stockman, and Mariah Schug. Great job students and parents. For their efforts these students will receive a pizza party.
Morning Walking
During the months of January, February, and March our gym is open for anyone in the community who would like to do a little morning walking. It is available from 6:00am to 9:00am. We will also have a pot of coffee on for those who enjoy this morning ritual. Emanuel is pleased to offer this activity at no charge. Come and enjoy some company while you take care of the body God has blessed you with.
The Scrip Program helps raise money for our PTL by selling gift cards and certificates. The Scrip fund receives a discount when purchasing these cards/certificates, then sells them at face value. You pay nothing extra and PTL receives thousand of dollars a year. ItÕs that simple. Scrip will be sold on all Sundays and communion Saturdays after church. If you have questions, please contact Robynne Schoenbauer (Ph. 952-467-2045).
We continue to collect General Mills ÒBox Tops for Education.Ó Remember to clip these coupons and bring them to church or school.
Our Family brand is also involved in an educational support program. In this program we will receive 5 cents per label (we only need the UPC portion). You can clip these from any Our Family Brand product. Our Family Brand products can be found at your local Econo Foods. DonÕt forget the Scrip!
Coborns Program
Helping Emanuel is easy when you shop at Coborns. Just check
the bottom of your receipt for any Coborns points. Then clip it and drop it off
at school. ItÕs that simple!
We now only need the UPC code off of the label. This should make storing and packaging a little easier. Please make sure you keep the Our Family UPCs separate from the CampbellÕs when you turn them in. WeÕre collecting these labels to help purchase equipment for school. This yearÕs goal is 34,228 which would allow us to purchase needed school supplies.
Our school has a bin to
recycle aluminum cans. Please
empty your cans into the wire container.
Please do not put tin cans, pie tins, or aluminum foil into this
bin, only aluminum cans. Last time we received almost $600 in can money.
It is definitely worth your while to drop them off.
Ink Jet Cartridges and Cell Phones
Our school collects ink jet cartridges and cell phones. You may bring your cartridges and cell phones into the school or you may take a recycling box to your place of business. Funding Factory will compensate our school on all laser cartridges and Apple, Cannon, Xerox, Lexmark, Hewlett Packard, and Compaq inkjet cartridges.
